St. Louis aldermen enter fight with state board over police budget

The St. Louis Board of Aldermen has joined the fight over the budget for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

The board adopted a resolution on Friday that includes a call for the state board overseeing the department to negotiate in good faith. It passed with little opposition, a day after a public hearing at which more than three dozen people spoke in support.

“If we do not speak up from the Board of Aldermen, it’s going to set a very dangerous precedent,” said sponsor Rasheen Aldridge, the alderman of the 14th Ward. “We’re already meeting the requirements that we’re supposed to meet. They’re saying that’s not enough. They want more and more and more. At some point, we have to say no.”…
