Firefighters rescue 9 people and a dog from rising stream in Kaimuki

KAIMUKI, Hawaii (Island News) — Honolulu firefighters rescued two groups of people including one dog who were all trapped by the Manoa-Palolo Stream late Friday morning.

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:34 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, about a rescue involving two separate groups of people along the Manoa-Palolo Stream in Kaimuki. When the first unit arrived at the scene, firefighters located the first group of five people along the stream bank.

HFD was told that another group was further downstream where four people and a dog were trapped underneath the Manoa-Palolo Stream Bridge.

HFD crews walked the first group safely out of the stream area. Crews then set up various rope systems to carefully remove the four people and the dog who were trapped under the bridge. They were able to get the last person out at 1:38 p.m…
