Wind Advisory covers Kalamazoo to Detroit, gusts to 50+ mph forecast

Gusty winds that could trigger power outages are forecast to continue today and into this evening for much of southern Michigan

The National Weather Service has issued Wind Advisories for both Southwest and Southeast Michigan, stretching from Allegan county on the west side of the state over to Ann Arbor and Detroit on the east side. The cities of Kalamazoo, Jackson, Lansing and Flint are included.

The Wind Advisories are expected to last until midnight tonight.

Highlights from the NWS forecast:

  • East winds of 20 to 30 mph are going to shift south this afternoon
  • Gusts will increase to 40 to 50 mph across southern Michigan

“Gusty winds will be capable of damaging unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result,“ the NWS team in Detroit said. ”Wind gusts increase from the Ohio border northward, mainly after 2 p.m., and as much warmer air surges into the region. Gusts continue through this evening.”…
