122nd Fighter Wing announces leadership transition

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Indiana Air National Guard’s 122nd Fighter Wing announced a transition in leadership for its Command Chief.

According to a press release, U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Lewis was appointed as the new 122nd Fighter Wing’s command chief, following the retirement of former Command Chief Master Sgt. Kyle D. Hoopingarner, who assumed the position on September 10, 2022.

The transition of leadership was announced at an assumption of responsibility ceremony on Saturday at the Indiana Air National Guard base in Fort Wayne.

“The Wing Command Chief is probably the most impactful position on this base,” said Col. ScottT. Boatright, 122nd Fighter Wing commander. “They are the leader of the enlisted force — thebackbone of our readiness and combat capability.”

Lewis began his military career in 2003 in the U.S. Marine Corps, and later transitioned to the 122nd Fighter Wing in 2008, serving as a weapons load team member, recruiting officesupervisor, base education training manager, and medical group senior enlisted leader over the past 18 years…
