FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Summit City celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a 5k, dyeing the river, and many more festivities in the annual Get Green Fest.
Starting at 8:30, a 5-Kilt Run/Walk kicked off the event’s festivities Saturday morning, where attendees were encouraged to dress up in holiday-themed gear.
The event’s hosts, the Fort Wayne Professional Firefighters, mimicked Chicago’s famous river-greening by dyeing the St. Marys River with environmentally friendly vegetable-based green dye.
Kids were able to gather as many coins as possible as they rained from the sky in the Gold Coin Drop. People of all ages could also participate in a Lucky Charms eating contest, with the winners of each age group bringing home a trophy and bragging rights…
