What was life like around Louisville 90 years ago?

In the 1930s, Louisville saw a visit from Franklin D. Roosevelt as he campaigned for the presidency in 1932 during the depths of the Great Depression; the Ohio River’s catastrophic 1937 flooding swallowed much of the city, forcing thousands to abandon their homes; and by the end of the decade the Iroquois Amphitheater opened in 1939 to give residents a new outdoor venue as a gathering place.
