Green Bay Metro Fire Department: Clear vents to prevent carbon monoxide buildup

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – As the ongoing snowstorm continues, officials in Green Bay say to remember to clear any vents of ice and snow to avoid carbon monoxide buildup.

According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, snow and ice can block furnace vents, dryer vents, and fireplace vents, leading to carbon monoxide possibly building up inside a resident’s home.

Carbon Monoxide is described as an invisible, colorless, and odorless gas and has become known to be a ‘silent killer.’
