Newton house fire claims life of 74-year-old woman, two dogs

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A Newton woman and two dogs died in a house fire late Sunday morning.

According to the City of Newton, crews were called around 11:30 a.m. to a home near West 4th Street and North Elm Street.

Firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames and smoke, with an active power line down in the yard. The fire was extinguished, but the home sustained heavy damage.

Crews found the woman and two dogs deceased inside.
