Person pushing shopping cart on west Columbus road struck and killed

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead after being struck by a vehicle while they were pushing a shopping cart along a west Columbus road Sunday night.

According to Columbus police, an adult pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart in a northbound lane of Georgesville Road, south of Hall Road, in the Riverbend neighborhood. Another person driving a 2014 Ford Fusion was also heading northbound, between Parkwick Drive and Hall Road just after 10:15 p.m.

The Ford struck the back of the pedestrian, knocking that person and the shopping cart off the right side of the road and into a utility pole. The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, but later pronounced dead at 11:29 p.m.

The driver remained at the crash scene and the AIU with Columbus police responded to initiate an investigation, which remains ongoing…
