TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Fire and Rescue Department battled a fire and strong winds Monday morning in north Toledo as flames engulfed what crews believe to have been a vacant house.
Crews were called at about 2 a.m. to the 800 block of Locust Drive near Dove Lane. Lucas Metropolitan Housing security reported the fire and had gone to the front door yelling for anyone inside. A neighbor told WTOL 11 the house, which had caught fire last year and had been vacant for about three years, was known to sometimes be occupied by squatters.
Firefighters also placed a ladder up to the second floor and called out to confirm if anyone was inside the home before determining it was empty…
