Reno homeowner files state complaint over HOA landscape dispute

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A disagreement over who is responsible for trimming trees, and who should pay for it, has escalated into a state complaint in a North Valleys neighborhood.

A Lemmon Valley resident says the homeowners association is charging residents for yard landscaping, even though he says the neighborhood’s own rules state homeowners are responsible for maintaining vegetation on their lots.

Vince Van Brunt said he takes pride in his xeriscape front yard. When he moved into Legacy Pointe in 2019, he said he was told the HOA would take care of landscaping. He also showed News 4/Fox 11 the covenants, conditions and restrictions (CC&Rs).

“They did prune our trees for years,” Van Brunt said. “And then we got a new management group. And they said, ‘Hey, you’re breaking the rules.’”…
