PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) – A Phenix City man was arrested Sunday after a 4-year-old girl was shot in the head while she slept at an apartment on 12th Street, according to the Phenix City Police Department.
Officers responded to Whispering Pines Apartments at 1200 12th Street on March 15, 2026, where they found the child with a gunshot wound to the head. The girl is in stable condition. Four other people were inside the residence at the time of the shooting, including two other children. No one else was injured.
Suspect identified, arrested after search
Investigators identified Youhan Jones Jr. as the suspect. Jones was reportedly in a dating relationship with the child’s mother.
During the search for Jones, two people were arrested on charges of Hindering Prosecution 1st Degree for allegedly helping him avoid arrest. Those individuals were identified as Vantasia Mayes, described as a female friend of Jones, and Stephanie Ward, identified as Jones’ mother…
