Ohio laws going into effect March 2026

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Several new laws are set to take effect across Ohio in March, bringing changes that affect everything from college athlete contracts to dangerous dog penalties and cannabis regulations.

The measures, signed by Gov. Mike DeWine at the end of 2025, will mostly begin taking effect this week. Here’s a closer look at some of the newest state laws.

HB 29 | Menstrual products in prisons

Gov. DeWine signed HB 29 into law in December 2025, requiring all county, municipal, and state correctional facilities housing female inmates to provide feminine hygiene products free of charge based on individual needs. The law also ensures proper storage and disposal of the products and mandates that inmates experiencing menstruation receive daily access to showers with hot water.
