(WJET/WFXP) — Erie police have charged the person they suspect of driving the car that fatally struck a bicyclist along West 8th Street near the beginning of December 2025.
Erie police charged 49-year-old Daryl Terry of Erie with fleeing accidents involving death and damage, other traffic violations and drug charges for that fatal collision near the intersection of West 8th and Liberty streets the evening of December 9.

Police said Terry was eastbound on a one-way westbound part of West 8th Street when he struck 66-year-old Richard Gaska, then fled the scene. Gaska was taken to UPMC Hamot, where he was later pronounced dead that same evening.
Terry allegedly hid the car, a Dodge Durango, that was later found in Harborcreek Township. Police said they used video footage of parts found at the scene, along with cellphone and vehicle data to connect Terry to the crash.

He was arraigned on one felony count of accidents involving death or injury, one count each of misdemeanor accidents involving damage, misdemeanor marijuana charges and summary traffic violations…
