Captain Jonathan Bigham was off duty when he spotted a car at the bottom of a creek at Tchulahoma and Church Road in Southaven. He entered the water and pulled out Mya Esquivel and Kaitlyn Sykes.
Reunion and recognition
The two teens attended a ceremony Monday to honor Bigham for his actions during the November rescue. Community leaders also recognized Bigham for his quick decision-making during the incident.
“I appreciate the recognition. I’m glad that the citizens of our county and everywhere else can see we have a volunteer unit — it’s working,” Bigham said.
