Senate Bill 269 would change how ambulance services are reimbursed by health insurers, while also aiming to protect patients from costly surprise bills. But critics warn the proposal could lead to higher insurance premiums for some Alabamians.

Supporters say ambulance system under pressure

Eric Pendley, president of the Alabama Association of Ambulance Services, believes the legislation could make a life-saving difference.

“At the end of the day, SB 269 will save lives,” said Pendley.
