Dogs found locked in crates for days in New Orleans East spark outcry

This weekend, pictures of abandoned pets locked in crates in New Orleans East, were shared among animal lovers. And when they were sent to us as well, we went searching for answers to see what happened and where the dogs are now.

For more than a week, four dogs were locked in two crates in an empty lot in a New Orleans East suburb off of Chef Menteur Highway.

“It was urine saturated, full of feces,” said Jami Hirstius, President of Metairie Humane Shelter. “They were filthy, stunk to high heaven and slightly mad, which, you can’t blame ’em.”…
