Discarded cigarette blamed for E. Wichita duplex fire, 4 treated for smoke inhalation

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The source of a fire that spread Sunday night at an east Wichita duplex started from a discarded cigarette, the Wichita Fire Department confirmed. On the call, reported at about 8:16 p.m. in the 1100 block of Williamsburg (southeast of 13th and Oliver), crews arrived at the scene to find fire showing from one side of the duplex.

The fire spread with a boost from Sunday’s strong winds but Wichita fire crews managed to gain the upper hand and control the fire, containing it mostly to one side of the duplex…
