Vancouver Public Schools to slash nearly 200 jobs to meet $24M budget reduction

VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Vancouver Public Schools board of directors has announced another round of job cuts and furlough days as it seeks to reduce its 2026-27 budget by roughly $24 million.

Just shy of 200 positions are expected to be cut across all levels of district operations. The district currently employs 2,900 employees across 39 schools and programs, with around 20,000 students in attendance.

Last week, the board announced that it needed to slash its budget in order to account for rising operation costs. Inflation, declining enrollment, underfunding from the state and dwindling savings to make up the difference were all cited as challenges for the district.
