Plumbing issues lead to flooding, power outages at Charleston student apartments

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Students at SkyGarden Student Living Apartments say months of unresolved maintenance issues have reached a breaking point, leaving some residents displaced and frustrated.

A routine water valve replacement caused leaks throughout the building, sending water pouring through ceilings and soaking carpets in multiple units on Thursday. The following day, a power outage left parts of the community, including elevators and amenity spaces, without electricity for more than 24 hours.

Tenants say the flooding is the latest in a series of problems dating back to December, including low water pressure, no hot water, and repeated plumbing repairs that were often marked as completed but never fully resolved…
