Phenix City police seek leads in 2003 unsolved homicide, offer $15K reward

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) – The Phenix City Police Department is asking the public for new leads in the unsolved 2003 homicide of Eric Nelams, a former U.S. Army soldier who was shot and killed outside his home more than two decades ago.

Nelams, 32, was found dead in the carport of a residence in the 2300 block of Level Court on Sept. 26, 2003. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:45 a.m. after witnesses called 911 to report hearing multiple gunshots. Responding officers found Nelams deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

Investigation stalled after leads exhausted

Investigators interviewed multiple witnesses and followed available leads following the shooting. The department said all leads have since been exhausted and is now seeking new information to revive the investigation.

Nelams was the father of a son who was 9 years old at the time of his death.
