DANSVILLE — A commercial building at the corner of Mason and Jackson streets in the city was a total loss after a fire, according to Brandon Whipple, fire chief of the Ingham Township Fire Department.
Nobody was in the Rustic Roots business at the time of the fire, but a renter living in a unit above the market was home asleep at the time. Whipple said the man woke up because his smoke detector went off, and safely crossed the street to a neighboring business. Whipple added that the tenant is still alive because of the operational smoke detector in his home.
