VERO BEACH — Local officials and taxpayer advocates warned residents that a state proposal to eliminate property taxes on homesteaded homes could shift costs to businesses, renters and non-homesteaded property owners while forcing service cuts in Vero Beach and Indian River County.
The discussion came during “Let’s Talk Vero Property Taxes,” a community forum moderated by Baerbel O’Haire and featuring Vero Beach Mayor John Cotugno, Indian River County Commission Chairman Deryl Loar, Taxpayers Association of Indian River County President Lance Lunceford and Vero Beach City Manager Monte Falls.
