The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Rail Division announced that NC By Train will run a train from Raleigh to Rockingham Speedway on April 4 for a NASCAR event. This marks the second year the state’s passenger rail program has offered this service.
“After receiving positive feedback from last year’s event-day train service, we’re excited to bring this unique travel experience back,” said NCDOT Rail Division Director Jason Orthne. He thanked CSX, Amtrak, and Track Enterprises for their support.
The program drew inspiration from the “Open Express,” which carried passengers from the Triangle to the U.S. Open golf tournament in Pinehurst over four days in June 2024. Those trains sold out. Last year’s NASCAR train proved successful too, according to Bob Sargent, president of Track Enterprises…
