Vehicle Recovery Assist – Highway 37

On Thursday, March 12, Southern Marin Fire District crews responded to a request for assistance on Highway 37 near Lakeville Highway in Petaluma after a vehicle left the roadway and entered the water. The incident was initially handled by Novato Fire, and the driver was able to safely self-extricate from the vehicle.

Although there were no injuries, the partially submerged vehicle created a traffic hazard and safety concern for passing motorists. Due to SMFD’s strong working relationship with the California Highway Patrol, CHP requested assistance from Southern Marin Fire’s dive team to help secure and retrieve the vehicle.

SMFD personnel responded to the scene and worked with partner agencies to safely hook and remove the submerged vehicle from the water, helping restore safe conditions along the highway.
