FREMONT – Fishermen are coming from far and wide to the Sandusky River in Fremont for the 2026 walleye run.
On the river, anglers were fishing on the Sandusky River banks and wading into the river.
“This is huge. It’s drawing people from all over the country, I’ve heard of people coming from as far as Texas. A lot of them, if the lake is too choppy, they can always come here,” Gene Panuto of Tiffin said after pulling his first walleye out of the Sandusky River. “There’s a lot of guys from Wisconsin because the walleye we get out here and in Lake Erie are a lot bigger. It’s been busier than normally here. I don’t know if it’s because the fish generally run up the Sandusky first?”…
