Bell Leather Shop opens on 23rd Street in Canyon

When Miles Bell broke his hand riding bareback in a rodeo in 2001, his rodeo career ended and his leather career began.

Bell came to Canyon in 1997 to ride barebacks for the West Texas A&M University rodeo team. He made it to the College National Finals twice for WT. He then became a professional bareback rider with the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association). That’s when he broke his hand.

Bell started repairing gloves for bareback riders. From there, he moved on to making wallets and belts and Bell Leather Shop was born in his home. He taught himself, never interning in any leather shop…
