Amarillo City Council approves Ten Commandments monument amid church-state concerns

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A Ten Commandments monument is set to be installed on the grounds of Amarillo City Hall after the City Council approved a resolution last week accepting the donation and authorizing its placement on city property.

The display will feature the Ten Commandments and will be placed on the southwest lawn of City Hall grounds. City leaders said the monument represents a piece of the community’s history, but some residents raised concerns about the separation of church and state.

One citizen speaking against the proposal said, “We are not a Christian-only community, we are not a Christian-only state, we are not a Christian-only nation.”…
