Amarillo Park and Rec board weighs removing thousands of prairie dogs from John Stiff Park

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Prairie dogs have become a growing concern at John Stiff Memorial Park, where the Amarillo Parks and Recreation Board is considering how to remove thousands of the animals amid worries about damage, cost and public safety.

Board member Tim Reid said the prairie dogs are “native to this area,” but described the situation inside the city as destructive. “But it’s in town, and it is destroying, John Stiff Park,” Reid said.
