Shawano and Outagamie County highway crews save during historic Wisconsin snowstorm

(WFRV) – Officials in Shawano County say highway crews helped save the lives of two critical patients on Monday morning during the historic blizzard.

According to a release from the Shawano Ambulance Service, persisting whiteout conditions, blowing snow, and drifted over highways had put a hold on all transfers out of the ThedaCare-Shawano Medical Center since late Sunday evening.

On Monday morning, officials say two critical patients could no longer wait and were facing life-threatening injuries requiring them to be moved to facilities that could provide a higher level of care.
