EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso residents took advantage of a free pet sterilization event this weekend that resulted in hundreds of animals getting critical veterinary care.
According to El Paso Animal Services, about 450 pets were spayed or neutered during their multi-day event. The effort relied on donations and volunteer support, as well as veterinary teams that traveled from out of state to help perform the surgeries.
These “Spay-A-Thons” are becoming an important tool for addressing pet overpopulation in the Borderland. KTSM was there during a similar three-day event in 2025 that resulted in more than 400 pets being spayed or neutered.
