Overnight traffic impacts on 8th Street over Fountain Creek

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — People using 8th Street should expect to see a major traffic shift on the Fountain Creek bridge starting with overnight work on Wednesday, March 18, according to the City of Colorado Springs.

The project is designed to address infrastructure and mobility needs on 8th Street between Fountain Creek and Motor City Drive. The City said the project was approved by voters in 2012, and initial design work showed that, in addition to road improvements, the area needed other significant infrastructure upgrades.

The City said the overnight work will close the west side of the bridge so crews can continue bridge rehabilitation. Work begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and is expected to be completed by 5 a.m. on Thursday. Northbound traffic will have one open lane across the bridge, and southbound traffic will have two open lanes.

This phase of construction is expected to last four weeks and includes rehabilitating the bridge deck and repairing the sidewalk on the west side of the bridge.
