SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — According to the Best Friends Animal Society (BFAS), a record number of cats were saved throughout the United States last year.
BFAS collected data from over 10,000 shelters last year and found that the number of cats killed in shelters over the last decade has decreased by almost 75%. According to BFAS, this reduction has resulted from multiple key factors.
The first factor is community cat programs. BFAS says that more communities are implementing humane programs that trap, spay/neuter, and release outdoor cats. This can ensure that fewer kittens are born in the wild, and fewer feral cats experience fatal health issues…
