SCRANTON — Former Fairview Township tax collector Karen McGinnis was sentenced to 20 months in federal prison for embezzling more than $400,000 in property taxes.
U.S. District Court Judge Karoline Mehalchick sentenced McGinnis on Tuesday. McGinnis was ordered to report to prison on or before April 13.
According to federal prosecutors, McGinnis was responsible for collecting property taxes from the residents of Fairview Township, including taxes payable to Fairview Township, Luzerne County, and the Crestwood School District.
