Fresno schools pull out Cesar Chavez event amid ‘shocking’ allegations

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Local schools are pulling out of an annual event in Fresno after the United Farm Workers (UFW) union canceled events over “shocking” allegations that surfaced against historic labor leader Cesar Chavez.

On Tuesday, the UFW, which was founded by Chavez, announced they will not be celebrating the March 31 holiday after learning about allegations against him involving the “abuse of young women or minors.”

The Fresno Unified School District said as a result of the allegations, the district will not participate in the Cesar Chavez celebration on Wednesday at Warnors Theatre. This includes the march afterward to the Cesar Chavez Adult Education Center…
