Ex-employee allegedly uses company card for personal purchases

Union Township, Pa. — A 46-year-old Newport man is accused of allegedly using his former employer’s company card to make personal purchases at a Snyder County general store.

James Edward Mitchell Jr. was charged after police investigated the alleged fraudulent card use for a five-month period in 2025. Police concluded Mitchell had allegedly purchased food, household goods, cigarettes, and wiper blades for his personal vehicle on the company account between Jan. 14 and May 15, 2025.

Trooper Derek Gill was called on Feb. 19 to Hilsher’s General Store on South Susquehanna Trail to investigate. Gill interviewed a clerk who told him Mitchell had been using a Champion Homes account to purchase groceries and gasoline, which she thought was unusual, according to the affidavit. Mitchell allegedly told the clerk the company was taking care of his living expenses since he was not from the area…
