Lineworkers from Lansing help restore power to Alpena residents following ice storm

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) sent two crews of six lineworkers to help restore power to residents of Alpena following the weekend ice storm.

BWL sent crews to this area about a year ago following the 2025 ice storm as part of a statewide mutual aid partnership.

“We’re all happy to be there to help. It’s important to help our other municipalities around when our when our territory and our communities in need. They seem to come to our rescue. So it’s important for us to come to theirs,” said Mike Fountain, journeyman lineman for BWL.

According to our sister station WOODTV8, over 100,000 people were without power in Northern Michigan Monday night as the area dealt with snow and ice.

Consumers Energy told WOODTV8 that 570 crews were working 16-hour shifts to restore power, with hopes for an additional 200 out-of-state crews, including BWL, to assist…
