Route 724 closed in Berks Co. after fatal morning crash

CUMRU TWP., Pa. – A crash that shut down part of Route 724 in Cumru Township on Tuesday morning has been confirmed as a fatal accident. Rt. 724 has been reopened as of 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The Cumru Township Police Department responded to a reported motor vehicle crash on Philadelphia Avenue (Route 724) in the area of Valley Stream Road. Initial reports indicated the crash involved a trash hauler and a pickup truck, with possible entrapment and fire, according to a press release from the police.

Police say when emergency crews arrived, they determined that the driver of the pickup truck had died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the trash hauler were evaluated by EMS and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, according to officials…
