Gulf Coast women’s team, coming off state title, gets 11th seed at upcoming National Tournament

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Gulf Coast women’s team coming off the big win Saturday in the state championship game, and now looking head to the National Tournament. Coach Kuhn and his Commodores beating rival Chipola 70-45 Saturday in the Region 8, or State Championship game. That gave them the automatic berth in Nationals, and today, they sat and watched the NJCAA’s seeding show for that 24-team tourney.

And it wrapped an exhausting three day stretch in which they beat Florida Southwestern, Eastern Florida and Chipola, each by 20 points or more. All that leaving Gulf Coast’s head coach thrilled yet worn out.

“I mean obviously it’s physically draining.” coach Kuhn told me Monday afternoon. “But as much physically, it’s mentally and emotionally draining, taken that you have three days in a row in three days. To be locked in that long is physically draining and then the emotional component obviously, you know. 10 years ago I was in that gym, cutting down the nets on the men’s side. So I saw a whole bunch of old familiar faces, people that I used to know there that came to the game. So it was a lot, draining mentally, emotionally. You know just with our team and my own personal circumstance. I wouldn’t want any other way, but it was an amazing weekend those three days that wound up being fantastic. So I got some well deserved rest the last few days that’s for sure. ”…
