Don’t get pinched: St. Patrick’s Day scams targeting event-goers and sweepstakes

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – It’s Saint Patrick’s Day, and the Better Business Bureau warns scammers are trying to get lucky by stealing your money.

Tricksters use the big holiday to push fake sweepstakes, bogus events and fraudulent online shopping.

Scammers are banking on your excitement to get lucky today by sending you a call, text or email claiming you won a sweepstakes.

However, it’s a scam if you don’t remember entering, if the sender asks for detailed personal information, or if they ask you to send back part of the “winnings” to cover taxes or fees. The BBB said it’s important to remember legitimate prizes do not require you to pay to collect winnings…
