NJ woman accused of stealing more than $80,000 in identity theft scheme

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — A Jersey City woman allegedly obtained fake debit cards and used them to steal more than $80,000, officials said.

Ibelis Gonzalez, 46, was indicted Tuesday and is facing second-degree theft by deception; one count of second-degree impersonation; and one count of third-degree offenses involving false government documents, according to Attorney General Jennifer Davenport.

Gonzalez allegedly entered several Citizens Bank branches across New Jersey between May and June of 2024, using multiple fake IDs in the names of victims to obtain debit cards tied to six accounts, according to the indictment.

She is accused of conducting in-person transactions at multiple branches, withdrawing about $60,500.

The debit cards were also allegedly used at ATMs and for debit purchases. In total, $86,840 was withdrawn from the victims’ accounts, according to the indictment report.
