Red light cameras in Florida are at risk after judge’s ruling

Pensacola’s controversial red light cameras could be at risk after a Broward County judge ruling that red light cameras in the county are unconstitutional.

Broward County Judge Steven DeLuca made the ruling in the case of a 24-year-old woman last week. She was issued a citation after her vehicle was photographed running a red light at an intersection in May 2025.

“The state’s presumption that the registered owner of a motor vehicle is responsible for a red light violation impermissibly shifts the burden of proof to the accused and relieves the government of its obligation to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, every fact necessary to constitute the offense charged,” the ruling stated…
