‘Sounded like hundreds of golf balls hitting the house’: Storms leave behind damage in Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Severe storms on Monday night left behind fallen trees and power outages across Central Virginia.

In the Salisbury neighborhood in Chesterfield, Rebecca Bowman took shelter with her family inside their safe space when the storms grew intense.

“Everything was just hitting the house, there was branches hitting the house,” said Bowman. “I thought a hailstorm was starting because it just sounded like hundreds of golf balls hitting the house, so my first thought was get away from the windows.”

Little did Bowman know the noise came from a large tree, which fell from the woods into her front yard…
