San Jose’s Adobe, accused of dirty subscription tricks, agrees to pay $75 million fine, and give $75 million in free services to customers

The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday announced the settlement, which came nearly two years after the department sued Adobe in San Jose U.S. District Court.

“American consumers deserve the right to make informed choices when deciding where to spend their hard-earned money,” Brett Shumate, head of the U.S. Department of Justice’s civil division, said in a statement Friday.

The July 2024 lawsuit by the Justice Department accused the company and two senior executives, Maninder Sawhney and David Wadhwani, of violating federal consumer-protection laws including the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act…
