Novato Police promote safe St. Patrick’s Day driving

The Novato Police Department is reminding residents to plan ahead for a safe and sober way home during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. In 2023, 1,355 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in California. Officers will be on patrol looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police encourage everyone to choose a sober driver, use rideshare or public transportation, and host responsibly by offering non-alcoholic drinks. They also remind residents that impairment can come from alcohol, prescription drugs, or cannabis. Anyone who sees an impaired driver should call 9-1-1. Funding for this safety effort comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
