NYCLU takes over Billue’s appeal and alleges Syracuse schools denied her due process

The New York Civil Liberties Union alleges that former Syracuse school board Commissioner Twiggy Billue was denied her civil rights when she was ousted from the board.

Lanessa Owens-Chaplin, director of the NYCLU Racial Justice Center, is representing Billue as she appeals her removal to state Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa.

The city school board voted Jan. 20 to remove Billue for violating the district’s visitor protocols and for breaking the code of ethics. The district said Billue entered her grandson’s school without signing in or getting a visitor pass and improperly used her influence to get involved in her grandson’s schooling…
