WECT INVESTIGATES: Brunswick County pays $7 million more than expected for property

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick County paid nearly five times its original offer for a 380-acre property in the Leland area, court records show, bringing the total cost to $8.74 million.

County leaders plan to build a new raw water reservoir on the property, calling it an “ideal” location since it sits near the Northwest Water Treatment Plant, already has a lake on site and used to be a quarry.

The $170 million treatment plant expansion project, which is expected to remove forever chemicals from drinking water and increase the plant’s water capacity, is scheduled to finish in September after several delays…
