A beloved deli owner, a masked robbery, and a deadly shot: Staten Island trial opens

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — At some point during the murder trial of Hussein Adam, jurors will be shown an interrogation video in which the defendant admits to fatally shooting a beloved deli owner in Castleton Corners.

But it’s not what Adam said in the video, it’s how he said it, submitted defense attorney Marion Linthicum during opening arguments Tuesday in state Supreme Court, St. George.

Linthicum, along with defense co-counsel Peter Laumann, contend Adam was protecting his best friend, a second alleged gunman in the case…
