Jan Malcolm, retired health commissioner, takes new role to help save HCMC

Former Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm, who led the state through the pandemic, is stepping into a new role aimed at averting a closure of the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC).

Gov. Tim Walz said Tuesday that he’s tapped Malcolm to serve as Senior Advisor on Hospitals and Health Systems, a role designed to develop recommendations for the governor’s office on what actions the state can take to support hospitals amid deepening financial challenges.

“Jan Malcolm is one of the most respected and experienced health leaders Minnesota has ever had, and I’m grateful she has agreed to lend her expertise to our state’s health system yet again,” Walz said in a news release…
