San Antonio ISD plans to close Rhodes Middle School at the end of this school year, the district revealed in a letter Tuesday to families and staff.
Rhodes students will be reassigned to Tafolla Middle School, which will be run by the nonprofit Third Future Schools, according to the letter signed by SAISD Board President Alicia Sebastian and Superintendent Jaime Aquino. The 461 students currently enrolled at the West Side middle school may enroll at any school within the district.
The district will use unspent bond funds intended to improve Rhodes to build a “new, state-of-the-art facility” at thesite Rhodes occupies. That site is adjacent to Carvajal Elementary, which also will close this summer. SAISD’s partnership with Third Future is expected to begin in August.
